Pregnant Elephant Dies of Electrocution in Assam
A pregnant elephant was found dead in Hasi-Muhipara village’s paddy field under Bondapara Forest Range, West Kamrup.
Forest officials, led by Range Officer Animesh Kalita, confirmed electrocution as the cause. Villagers alleged illegal encroachments and mining in reserve forests are worsening man-elephant conflicts, forcing elephants to wander into human areas.
The elephant, part of a herd of 40-50, had a male calf in her womb. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible.
