Rahul Gandhi Promises Greater Autonomy, Welfare Push in Assam Campaign

Rahul Gandhi, addressing a rally in Karbi Anglong, promised full implementation of Article 244A to grant greater autonomy to indigenous communities if Congress comes to power.
Campaigning for candidate Raton Engti, he said the provision would enable local self-governance and protect indigenous rights.
Gandhi strongly criticised the BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging corruption and excessive central control. He also claimed large tracts of land were being handed over to corporate groups linked to Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani and Baba Ramdev.
Outlining welfare promises, Gandhi said Congress would provide financial aid to women, ₹1,250 to senior citizens, land pattas to 10 lakh indigenous people, and ₹25 lakh health insurance per family.
He also promised action against corruption and justice in key cases, while positioning autonomy, land rights, and welfare as central issues in the ongoing Assam election campaign.
