Rift Emerges in Assam Opposition After Poll Defeat

Differences within Assam’s opposition alliance came to the forefront as Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi publicly blamed each other over the Assembly election defeat.

Gaurav Gogoi criticised Akhil Gogoi for making public statements that could create doubts about the opposition alliance, while also crediting Congress voters for Raijor Dal’s victories in some constituencies.

In response, Akhil Gogoi accused Congress leaders of running a weak and poorly coordinated campaign against the BJP. He said the opposition failed due to lack of planning and ineffective leadership.

Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora also recalled resigning as APCC president after the 2021 election defeat, saying he took moral responsibility for the loss.
