Runikhata Violence: 4 Arrested as Police Restore Control

Four people were arrested after violent protests, arson, and alleged weapon snatching at the Runikhata Forest Range Office along the India–Bhutan border. Police said the situation is now under control, with senior officers from multiple districts deployed and security tightened.

Bongaigaon SSP Numal Mahatta is leading talks with protesters, assuring legal action and justice while urging calm. Authorities have registered an FIR and warned against further violence.

The unrest began after an eviction drive in which several Adivasi residents were detained, triggering protests demanding their release.
