Shiksha Setu App Exposes Over 5 Lakh Fake Students, Revolutionizes Teacher Accountability in Assam

The Shiksha Setu App, launched by the State Government, has revealed a startling revelation of over five lakh fake students in Assam. Education Adviser to the State Government, Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, explained that inflated student numbers were often a result of teachers fearing transfers and collusion between school management committees and principals aiming to siphon off government funds meant for students’ benefits.

The app has brought revolutionary changes by enabling the monitoring of teacher presence in schools from Guwahati. Teachers now have to digitally mark their attendance, addressing issues of tardiness and unauthorized absences. With over 45,000 schools and more than two lakh teachers in the state, the app ensures better oversight and accountability.

Additionally, the Shiksha Setu App helps identify schools with high dropout rates, allowing the government to take corrective measures. It aids in the rationalization of teachers based on student numbers, addressing the imbalance of teacher distribution between urban and rural areas. Despite some opposition, primarily due to internet issues in remote areas, the app is seen as a crucial tool in improving the transparency and efficiency of the education system in Assam.
