Small Tea Growers Urge Assam CM to Address Price Crisis in Tinsukia

The All Assam Small Tea Growers’ Association (Tinsukia unit) appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to rescue the struggling small tea sector, citing a severe economic crisis affecting 56,000 growers and nearly eight lakh dependents.

Leaders submitted a memorandum in Doomdooma, accusing the Tea Board and local administration of failing to ensure fair prices and claiming growers have not received the Minimum Benchmark Price. They also protested factories buying leaves from Arunachal Pradesh, which they say hurts local rates, and demanded restoration of the NOC system.

Small growers have stopped supplying green leaves for three days in protest. The Chief Minister assured the issue will be discussed.
