Sonapur Residents Protest Against IAF Station Restrictions

Public outrage has erupted in Sonapur over official notices issued by the Kamrup (M) administration regarding restricted structures near the IAF Station in Digaru. The Brihattar Sonapur Gaon Suraksha Samiti has announced protests, including a PIL to demand the relocation of the airbase and the burning of an IAF officer’s effigy on April 3.

The committee has given a 10-day ultimatum to revoke the January 27 order, remove barricades, and lift restrictions on construction within 900 meters of the base. Locals argue the rules encroach on their rights, vowing continued protests if demands are unmet. A memorandum will also be sent to top government officials seeking intervention.
