Supreme Court Rejects PIL Seeking Intensive Electoral Roll Revision in Assam

The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to hear a PIL seeking a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Assam, noting that the final rolls were already published on February 10. The bench said the plea had become infructuous. The petitioner had challenged the Election Commission’s decision to hold a standard Special Revision instead of an intensive one. The court also stressed that declaring individuals as foreigners falls under statutory processes, not the EC’s discretion. Assam’s voter count has dropped by 2.43 lakh after the revision.
