Teachers’ Association will participate in the December 16 SAKP protest

The Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) called for the National Pension System (NPS) to be abolished and the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to be reinstated on December 16. The All Assam ME Teachers’ Association (AAMETA) wholeheartedly backed this agitation call.

Dwipen Sarma, the Association’s president, stated, “Along with the central government employees, in Assam too, the teachers and employees were recruited under NPS after 2005. These employees suffer badly after their retirement. Nowadays, the most discussed topic in the country is the cancellation of the NPS and the restoration of the OPS. And there are agitations against it on all levels. In Assam too, SAKP has undertaken various demonstrations demanding the restoration of the OPS. But still, there has been no positive response by the government regarding the pension scheme. And now the SAKP has called for a protest meeting on December 16 in Narengi at 11 a.m. We totally support this protest call to secure the future of the teachers and the employees. This is one of our main and legitimate demands. Therefore, we urged all the districts to join the protest meeting on December 16.”
