Two Arrested After Assault Videos from Biswanath De-Addiction Centres Go Viral

Two persons, Manas Jyoti Saikia and Raja Saha, have been arrested after videos showing the alleged assault of inmates at de-addiction centres in Biswanath went viral on social media. Police registered a case following an FIR filed by the District Social Welfare Department.

According to SSP Ajagauran Basumatary, the videos relate to separate incidents at Live Well Rehabilitation Centre (2024) and Pratigya Wellness Foundation (2025). Two other accused, Gautam Daimary and Munna Hazarika, are currently absconding.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the facilities’ operations and compliance with standard procedures. Authorities are also considering further action against other de-addiction centres in the region.
