ULFA-I Claims Responsibility for Assam Rifles Attack, Calls it ‘Operation Revenge’

Hours after the assault on Assam Rifles, the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has asserted responsibility, terming it as part of their ‘Operation Protixudh’ (Operation Revenge). In a press release, ULFA-I stated that the operation was executed against Assam Rifles in the Namdang forest area near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, seeking retribution for the deaths of their members. They named self-styled (ss) Second Lieutenant Gyan Asom, SS Sergeant Major Iyangshu Asom, and SS Lieutenant Uday Asom among the deceased. The outfit claimed damage to Assam Rifles vehicles and reported several soldiers sustaining severe injuries. They further alleged that security forces cordoned off the area and airlifted the injured personnel to conceal their inadequacies.
