Genetic Testing of Rhino Horn Samples Begins in Assam

Genetic verification of 2,479 preserved rhino horn samples has begun at Kohora’s Forest Convention Centre. The samples, earlier stored in state treasuries, will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, for DNA analysis and genetic studies. A committee under the forest department, including experts, officials, NGOs, and observers, is overseeing the process. The horns were originally burned in 2021, but samples were saved for research.
