Fresh Myanmar Refugees Enter Mizoram Amid Forced Recruitment Fears

A fresh group of 34 refugees from Myanmar has entered Mizoram, with most arriving in Hnahthial district after allegedly fleeing forced recruitment by the Chin National Army.

Some refugees said teenagers in western Chin State were being pressured to join recruitment drives, and several youths had already been taken as combatants. Fearing the same, they crossed into Mizoram for safety.

With the new arrivals, the number of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram has risen to 29,691. The influx has also slightly affected the state’s biometric enrolment progress, while registration of Bangladeshi refugees in Lawngtlai district is continuing.
