Assamese Film ‘Aakuti’ Selected for New York Indian Film Festival 2026

Assamese feature film Aakuti (Longing) has been selected for the New York Indian Film Festival 2026, where it will have its world premiere on May 30.

Directed by debut filmmaker Snigdha P Roy, the 1-hour 34-minute film tells the emotional story of an eight-year-old girl struggling with the loss of her mother.

Produced under PKR Films, Aakuti stars Kavisha Mahanta along with Nilim Chetia, Anisha Hazarika and Arun Hazarika. The film was also selected for the “Film Bazaar Recommends” section at Waves Film Bazaar 2025.
