Assam Reviews Illegal Stone Mining Along Assam-Nagaland Border

M.K. Yadav on Thursday visited the Doyang River area in Uriamghat to assess allegations of illegal stone mining along the Assam-Nagaland border. The visit followed multiple complaints regarding large-scale stone extraction activities in the disputed border region.

Accompanied by district officials, forest officers, police personnel, magistrates, and border authorities, Yadav inspected several sites where illegal mining has reportedly been taking place. He said the situation would be examined thoroughly before any action is taken and confirmed that drones have been deployed for a detailed assessment of the affected areas.

Officials stated that discussions would also be held with the Nagaland government since the locations fall within the Disputed Area Belt (DAB) between the two states. Areas including Kherbari, Dalanipathar, and Madhupur in the Uriamghat region have reportedly witnessed unchecked mining activities allegedly linked to organised stone mafias.

The visit is part of an ongoing effort by the Assam government to investigate and address concerns over illegal extraction activities and environmental damage in the sensitive border region.
