JE Death Toll in Assam Rises to 10, Health Department Intensifies Preventive Measures

Guwahati, Assam: The death toll from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam has increased to 10 this year, with 42 confirmed cases reported so far. The state has also recorded 519 Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases and 36 related deaths.
The Health Department has intensified preventive measures, including vaccination drives, healthcare worker training, public awareness campaigns, and fogging operations in vulnerable districts. Officials said over 85% of the targeted adult population has been vaccinated in several districts.
Residents have been urged to take precautions against mosquito bites, especially during the monsoon season, by wearing full-sleeved clothing and seeking early medical care if symptoms appear. Free treatment for JE is available at all government hospitals, with reimbursement of up to ₹1 lakh for treatment expenses.
