Police Probe Fake Escort Websites Using Jorhat’s Name

Jorhat: Jorhat Police, along with the Cyber Cell, have launched an investigation into an alleged online racket that used Jorhat’s name to promote fake escort services through websites and social media. Police said a case has been registered, but the probe has become difficult after the suspected websites were taken down.

The investigation follows a complaint by advocate Bijoy Sankar Borbora, who alleged cyber fraud, identity theft, and misuse of photographs of women from Assam to operate fake escort service websites. The platforms reportedly displayed service rates to lure victims into advance-payment scams.

Police have urged the public to remain alert against online fraud and assured that efforts are underway to trace those responsible once the websites become active again.
