Assam Honours First Woman Everest Climber Rupamoni Gorh

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday felicitated Rupamoni Gorh, the first woman from Assam to scale Mount Everest, and ITBP Assistant Commandant Bhanita Timungpi at Lok Sewa Bhawan. The state government awarded ₹10 lakh to Rupamoni and ₹2 lakh to Timungpi in recognition of their achievements.
The Chief Minister also announced that the road leading to Rupamoni’s residence in Lakhimpur would be renamed Rupamoni Gorh Path. He praised both mountaineers for inspiring Assam’s youth and reaffirmed the government’s support for adventure sports and aspiring climbers.
