Arunachal Pradesh will host the world’s first marathon at 10,000 feet

The Army and the Arunachal Pradesh government, led by Pema Khandu, have issued a challenge to combat high-altitude breathlessness by organising the first marathon event in the Eastern Himalayas on October 1.

“Tawang, perched at an elevation of 10,000 feet above mean sea level, will provide participants with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in possibly the most challenging high-altitude run in the country,” a defence spokesperson said.

According to him, the Tawang Marathon will be the first of its kind in the northeast. “The goal of this event is to put Tawang on the marathon map as well as promote the popular tourist destination as an adventure sports destination,” said a spokesperson.
