Assam Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Ahead of Elections

Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), authorities in Assam have intensified efforts against illegal brewing and transportation of alcohol. The Commissionerate of Excise, Assam, has reported the seizure of approximately 3.28 lakh litres of illegal liquor valued at around Rs 7.04 crore since the MCC took effect.

Notably, on the day of the first phase of polling, illegal liquor worth Rs 0.28 crore was seized by the department. This crackdown underscores the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order during the election period, ensuring a fair and safe electoral process.
