Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Borah Dismisses Defection Speculations, Vows to Contest Against CM Sarma

Amidst speculations fueled by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the possible defection of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief, Bhupen Borah, to the BJP, Borah swiftly countered the claims. Speaking at a press conference in Jorhat, Borah dismissed Sarma’s assertions and expressed his readiness to contest the 2026 state assembly elections against CM Sarma if permitted by the Congress party. Borah criticized the diversionary tactics employed by Sarma and reaffirmed his allegiance to the Congress, challenging the BJP’s agenda. This confrontation follows Sarma’s claim that Borah would join the BJP in January 2025, with preparations allegedly made for Borah to contest from two constituencies.
