Assam Police Officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta Elevated to Inspector General Rank

On Saturday, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, a distinguished police officer in Assam, was promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) from his previous position as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). The promotion, effective from January 1, 2024, was made in the interest of public service, according to an official order. Mahanta, who has been serving as DIGP (Admn) and holding additional charges as DIGP (Special Task Force) and DIG (CWR), will now officiate as Inspector General of Police with expanded responsibilities, including overseeing administrative matters in Guwahati and handling the Special Task Force and CWR. The promotion places him in Level-13A in the Pay Matrix.
