Assam Rifles, DRI Seize Heroin Worth ₹5.85 Crore in Cachar

In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized heroin worth ₹5.85 crore in Assam’s Cachar district.

Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel intercepted a vehicle near Sonabarighat and recovered the heroin consignment. Two drug peddlers from Manipur’s Chandel district were arrested. The vehicle and two mobile phones were also seized.

Officials said the operation highlights Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to curb drug trafficking across the Northeast. The region, sharing a long unfenced border with Myanmar, remains a key transit route for smuggled narcotics.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to joint operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and protecting youth from substance abuse.
