BJP wins district council elections before Mizoram assembly polls

BJP swept the elections to retain office in the Mara autonomous district council of Mizoram by bagging 41 of the 99 village councils on Thursday-a victory seen as significant in the Christian-majority state that elects a new assembly later this year, reports HC Vanlalruata.

The latest election to the MADC was held Tuesday. Apart from BJP’s landslide win, MNF took 25 village councils, Congress won eight, ZPM got two and an independent candidate won in one. There’s no clear majority in 22 village councils, which elect representatives to the MADC.
