Eight Arrested for Lynching Youth in Assam Rehab Centre

Eight individuals were arrested on Sunday for allegedly lynching a youth from Meghalaya to death inside the New Life Foundation rehab centre in Assam’s Goalpara.

On July 2, three drug-addicted youths—Noor Salim Ahmed, Rakesh Das, and Niksamseng Marak—were detained by Krishnai Police for possession of drugs and subsequently placed at the rehab centre. On the night of July 3, Niksamseng Marak was found dead in the bathroom, initially suspected to be a suicide. However, CCTV footage revealed that the staff and inmates beat Marak to death with rods.

The police have launched an investigation and arrested eight individuals connected to the incident. The Garo National Council and other organizations in Meghalaya have demanded justice for Marak’s death.
