Elderly Woman Raped and Assaulted in Assam’s Goalpara District

In a heinous incident in Assam’s Goalpara district, a 70-year-old woman was allegedly raped and subjected to an attempted murder in the Matia area. The victim was grazing her cow when a miscreant, naked and with his face covered, approached and assaulted her. The attacker then attempted to strangle her, but she managed to escape by biting him.

The victim, now mentally traumatized, was taken to a hospital in Matia for a medical examination and is likely to be referred to Goalpara for further treatment. The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrator.

Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi visited the scene on Sunday, urging the police to swiftly capture those responsible for the crime.
