Four Die of Japanese Encephalitis at GMCH This Year

Guwahati: Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has claimed four lives at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) this year, with 11 patients admitted since April.

According to GMCH authorities, three patients have recovered and been discharged, while four others, including two children, are currently undergoing treatment. Most cases have been reported from Kamrup Rural district.

The latest victim was a resident of Panikhaiti in Kamrup Metro, who died on Friday after testing positive for JE. Residents of the Chandrapur-Panikhaiti area have expressed concern over increasing mosquito infestation and demanded stronger mosquito-control measures.

GMCH is also treating around 23-24 Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) patients. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation as the monsoon season increases the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
