Guwahati Resident Loses ₹24.98 Lakh in Cyber Scam

A Guwahati resident fell victim to a cyber scam, losing ₹24.98 lakh to fraudsters posing as “International Equity Fund” (IEF). The scammers, claiming to offer 50% monthly returns through a “government-approved” platform, lured victims via WhatsApp.

Initially offering small returns, they persuaded larger investments but later demanded advance tax payments and stopped communication. The scam, allegedly based in the US, targeted several victims nationwide. A cybercrime complaint has been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
