Himanta Biswa Sarma Targets AJP Candidate’s Family Ahead of Assam Polls

With campaigning intensifying ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sparked controversy by levelling allegations against the family of Kunki Chowdhury.

Addressing the media, Sarma accused Chowdhury’s mother, Sujata Chowdhury Gurung, of making “anti-national” remarks, including alleged support for activists Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid. He also claimed she made controversial statements regarding the Siliguri Corridor and religious beliefs.

The Chief Minister further alleged that her social media posts and remarks had hurt sentiments and questioned her views on national issues.

Sarma also targeted Lurinjyoti Gogoi, questioning the party’s decision to field Chowdhury and demanding a public response.

With polling just days away, political rhetoric in Assam has intensified, with parties sharpening attacks in the final phase of campaigning.
