Man Arrested in Assam for Extortion, Claims False Ties to Banned ULFA-I
In a peculiar incident in Assam’s Nagaon district, a person has been arrested on charges of money extortion by falsely claiming affiliation with the banned organization United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).
The arrested individual, identified as Fakar Uddin from Rupohihat’s Ghehua Solsoli, allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakh from betelnut businessman Abdul Hasim. The extortion included threats to harm Abdul Hasim’s two sons if the demanded amount was not paid.
Abdul Hasim promptly reported the incident to the Rupohihat Police Station, leading to the arrest of Fakar Uddin on Friday night.
During interrogation, Fakar Uddin admitted involvement of another person named Hussain Ali. Acting on this information, the police subsequently apprehended Ali in connection with the case.
