Mizoram NGOs demand action against Myanmar for “violating Indian air space.”

The NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC), a conglomerate of some major voluntary organisations in Mizoram demanded that the Centre should take initiatives to bring peace in the neighbouring country where the military junta would engage all political parties, different ethnic insurgent groups and all the other stakeholders.

A spokesman of the NGOCC said, “As different chin tribes of Myanmar are our blood-related tribes from Zo ethnic stock, we deeply empathise with the inhumane suffering and human rights violations caused by the ongoing Myanmar political crisis. India as the world’s largest democratic country should not be a silent spectator to the ongoing human rights violations and inhumane treatment of innocent civilians in the neighboring territory. Therefore, we urge the Government of India to champion humanity by shouldering the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the human rights of people.”

The body urged the Central government to take proactive action on the reported “violation of Indian airspace by the Myanmar Air Force”.

Villagers residing along the India-Myanmar border earlier claimed that a bomb was dropped near Tiau river on the Mizoram side. The river divides the two countries. According to the villagers, a truck owned by a village council member had been damaged in the explosion when it was carrying river sand.

The Indian army however denied any such bombing on Indian soil. Defence ministry sources stated that the allegations were not accurate. They said, “There is no such instance of bombing on the Indian side.”
