Silchar Residents Voice Frustration Over Waterlogging and Poor Roads
Residents of Silchar are increasingly frustrated with waterlogging and deteriorating roads. Even 30 minutes of heavy rain can halt the town, flooding lanes and disrupting traffic. Sonai Road residents are particularly affected, enduring inundated roads for days. In response, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty met with Sonai Road residents on Friday to gather suggestions. Acknowledging the town’s widespread encroachment issues, Chakraborty promised to address 80% of the waterlogging problem by March 2026, with support from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Locals also expressed anger over the poor road conditions and delays in repairing dug-up roads under the AMRUT scheme. Chakraborty urged officials from AMRUT and NHIDCL to implement temporary measures to alleviate the situation. Following the meeting, Chakraborty, along with BJP Cachar district members, officials, and locals, inspected the problematic areas contributing to the waterlogging issue.
