ULFA-I Claims Deadly Drone Strike by Indian Army; Officials Deny Involvement
Banned insurgent group ULFA-I has alleged that a drone strike by the Indian Army hit its eastern Myanmar camp, killing 19 cadres, including commander Nayan Medhi. The outfit claimed Manipuri insurgents were also among the casualties. However, Indian defence officials and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma denied any such operation, stating no involvement of Indian or Assam forces. The claim comes amid ULFA-I’s internal leadership crisis, with experts suggesting possible links to factional conflicts. The volatile India-Myanmar border continues to serve as a haven for northeastern insurgent groups.
