VPP releases first list of 14 candidates for upcoming Meghalaya poll

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) – a newly formed political party in Meghalaya – on December 12 released the first list of 14 candidates, for the assembly elections in the state for the next year.

VPP vice president, Kara H Shen said that the party will soon release the second list of candidates, which will also include the name of lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement legislator, Adelbert Nongrum.

Nongrum, the incumbent representative from the North Shillong assembly seat, is expected to join the VPP soon after he quit as a member of the 60-member Meghalaya assembly.

Shen said the first list includes the names of former state legislator and founding member of VPP Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and lone woman candidate Aibandaplin F Lyngdoh.
