12-hour Assam Bandh called by Joint platform of six ethnic tribes

The Soy Janagosthi Joutha Mancha, joint platform of six ethnic tribes called a 12-hour Assam Bandh on Tuesday to press for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status evoked partial response.

While schools, offices and other establishments remained closed in several areas of the state, protesters burnt tyres. Police detained some protestors.

Adivasi, Chutia, Koch-Rajbongshi, Matak, Moran, and Tai-Ahom are demanding ST status. It has also decided to hold a ‘dharna’ on November 30 in Delhi.
