4,554 names of Bru voters deleted from Mizoram’s electoral register

The Mizoram election department has so far deleted 4,554 names of Bru voters, who have settled permanently in neighbouring Tripura. About 5,848 Bru names are yet to be struck off the state’s electoral register.

Newly appointed joint chief electoral officer James Lalnunmawia told that while 4,083 Bru voters’ names were deleted through corresponding requests for deletion made by the Tripura state election commission, 471 names were deleted based on scanned forms received from the Tripura SEC.

Most of the Brus whose names have been deleted are from the Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border district of Mamit, which has three assembly constituencies – Hachhek, Mamit and Dampa.
