5 Myanmarese prisoners escape from Mizoram jail
Five inmates, including three convicts, escaped from south Mizoram’s Lunglei district jail by breaking the bricks of the toilet of ward 2 on Wednesday morning, police said.
All the escapees are Myanmar nationals and a massive hunt has been launched to nab them, police said.
One of the escapees, Lalchawimawia (24), was recently convicted for killing a 49-year-old woman in Lunglei. Lalchawimawia murdered T. Vanlalduati with a machete after robbing her on September 6, 2021.
Lalchawimawia, who was residing at Thangte village in Lunglei district, is originally from Myanmar.
The other four escapees – Lalbawihliana (27), Dokapthang (26) Haudeihchhin (25) and Vanneihthanga (38) – were arrested for possession or trafficking of heroin from Myanmar and booked under the Narcotics act.
