Assam Launches Mission Basundhara 3.0 to Safeguard Indigenous Land Rights
The Assam government launched Mission Basundhara 3.0, focusing on securing land rights for the state’s indigenous population. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that the initiative differs from Orunodoi, targeting rightful land ownership. Eligibility requires proof of residency in Assam since 1951 or three generations of residency. Relaxed criteria apply to communities like tea tribes and Adivasis, allowing them to present refugee certificates from before 1971. The initiative also supports small tea, coffee, and rubber cultivators with access to loans and land rights, while promoting digitization of land records and surveys.
