Election commission of India

With the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, the Election Commission of India has approved over 26,000 voters in the state for the home voting facility.

The provision allows voters aged above 85 and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to cast their votes through postal ballots from their homes. In Assam, 19,774 elderly voters and 6,638 PwDs have been approved so far.

Officials said the process is already underway and will be completed by April 5. Polling teams, along with security personnel and videographers, are visiting voters’ residences to ensure transparency while maintaining ballot secrecy.

Across Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, over 2.37 lakh voters have been approved for home voting, indicating growing participation among vulnerable groups.

Authorities added that voters who have not opted for home voting will receive necessary assistance at polling stations, ensuring a smooth and inclusive voting experience.
