Juvenile Crime Cases Rise Sharply in Assam in 2024

Assam recorded a significant rise in juvenile crime cases in 2024, with 206 cases registered under the IPC/BNS and Special and Local Laws (SLL), compared to 140 cases in 2023, according to Ministry of Home Affairs data.

A total of 219 juveniles were apprehended during the year. Most cases involved offences such as theft, kidnapping, murder and crimes under the POCSO Act. The data also showed that the majority of juveniles accused in these cases were either illiterate or had education up to the matric level.
