Parliament Passes Tougher Anti-Paper Leak Law

Parliament has passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, after it received approval from the Rajya Sabha. The amended law provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment, fines of up to ₹10 crore, and confiscation of the property of those convicted in paper leak and exam fraud cases. It also mandates Fast Track Courts, completion of investigations within two months, and trials within three months. While the government said the law reflects its zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractices, the Opposition supported the Bill but questioned its effectiveness and staged a walkout during the debate.
