On Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a visit to the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati and assessed the 175-acre facility’s infrastructure requirements.

In an address to the media, the chief minister stated that the Assam State Zoo is being redeveloped to become one of the nation’s top zoos, and that the Finance Department has been consulted on a Rs. 350-crore plan for this purpose. The suggested redevelopment plan, he claimed, includes sufficient infrastructure facilities for housing animals in a secure environment. He stated that within the grounds of the Assam State Zoo, plans are underway to build a cutting-edge veterinary hospital and a rehabilitation centre for the treatment of injured animals.
