Assam: Durga Puja begins; Saptami is today

The 6th day of Navaratri, or Sasthi, falls on Friday and marks the start of the Durga Puja festival. On this day, the idols, which had been brought from the workshops of the idol makers or assembled at the mandaps over the previous few days, were finally revealed to the public. Durga Puja committees throughout the city have chosen a variety of themes for this year’s celebrations. Among them, eco-friendly creativity has been the driving force behind a number of puja celebrations. The Odalbakra Durga Puja built an eco-friendly pandal entirely out of bamboo and cane sticks, emphasising sustainability and avoiding the use of thermocol and plastic. This magnificent pandal was built with over 1,000 pieces of bamboo.

Saptami is on Saturday this year, while Astami is on Sunday. Navami Puja will be held on Monday, and Dashami, the final day of the celebration, will be held on Tuesday.
