Assam Opposition Leader Files Petition to Halt Noonmati-Dighalipukhuri Flyover Construction

Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia submitted a petition to the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, seeking to stop the Noonmati-Dighalipukhuri Flyover Project until the Assam government provides a comprehensive plan addressing air and noise pollution, water drainage, and traffic management. Saikia also requested compensation for displaced vendors and the preservation of heritage sites along the project route. He emphasized the environmental and public impact of the construction, urging the court to appoint experts to evaluate and suggest eco-friendly practices. The flyover is part of Assam’s development plan, scheduled for completion by 2026.
