Assam Seeks to Become a Defence Supply Chain Hub
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Centre to establish a defence corridor in Assam to strengthen supply chains for defence equipment. Highlighting the strategic importance of the region, he emphasized the need for readiness against potential threats to the ‘chicken neck’ corridor.
Sarma noted Assam’s demand and strategic location, proposing it as India’s third defence corridor after Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Discussions with the Ministry of Defence are underway to declare areas near Guwahati as part of this initiative.
