CITU demands a minimum wage for tea garden workers

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) protested in labour offices across the state, demanding that the state’s tea garden workers be paid a living wage.

The CITU protested in several locations, demanding that the monthly remuneration for labour be fixed at Rs 21,000 and that the minimum daily wage for tea garden workers be declared at Rs 661. They also demanded that wages be paid to Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and cooks employed under the mid-day meal scheme in lieu of remuneration. They also demanded that construction and automobile workers, like workers in other industries, be provided with social security.
