MLA from the Assam Congress arrested for ‘hate speech’

Aftab Uddin Mollah, a Congress MLA from Jaleswar in Assam’s Goalpara district, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly delivering a “hate speech” targeting Hindu priests and namgharias (Vaishnavite sect priests). On Tuesday night, Mollah was arrested and taken to the MLA hostel quarters in Dispur for questioning.

Mollah appeared in a local court here on Wednesday and was sentenced to one day of police remand.
