Demand for a ban on the sale of alcohol during festivals in Kamrup (Metro)

The Brahmon Sobha has written to the Chief Minister, via the District Commissioner of Kamrup (metro) district, requesting a blanket prohibition on the sale of alcohol during the upcoming festive season.

President Shyamalendu Bhattacharjee and general secretary Sudip Sarma Choudhury highlighted the heavy sale and consumption of spirits during the Hindu religious festival season in their letter. Noting that the sale of liquor under government licences is a significant source of revenue for the state, they stated that the sale of alcohol had resulted in people losing their peaceful coexistence with their surroundings.
