Eight GMC officials held as Rs 20 crore scam probe gathers steam

The chief minister’s special vigilance cell arrested one more Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) official in connection with the ongoing probe in the Rs 20 crore scam.

The accused had siphoned off funds by submitting forged bills in the name of execution of de-siltation works of drains in the city from April 2 to May 26.

The total arrests have gone up to nine, of which eight are GMC officials and one is director of a private firm.

Himagshu Medhi, the latest official in the net is a finance and accounts officer of the GMC.

The arrested Engineers and officers are Elin Begum, Chittaranjan Dutta Gogoi, Asif Ahmed, Hiranya Barman, Shankar Medhi, engineer Seemantajyoti Barua, Himagshu Medhi.
