In Guwahati, a protest was held to demand the regularisation of ICT instructors’ jobs

On Monday and Tuesday, activists from the Sadou Asom Computer Sikshak Santha protested at Sachal in Guwahati, demanding the regularisation of the jobs of ICT instructors in the state.

According to the activists, the Assam government launched the Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Programme (RGCLP) in 2004 to provide free computer education to high school and higher secondary school students. This computer literacy programme was renamed the Dr Banikanta Kakati Computer Literacy Scheme in 2018. The Government of Assam’s Directorate of Secondary Education had advertised for the appointment of ICT instructors. Based on eligibility, 1,346 ICT instructors who were previously employed under the RGCLP were re-hired. They were given a monthly stipend of Rs 14,000 each.
